Purdue University and Purdue Global employees have until 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2026, to submit 2027 benefit elections through Benefitfocus, leaving one full weekend to act.
Most current benefits will carry into 2027 automatically, but employees must confirm their enrollment and complete specified annual actions. These obligations affect tobacco-related pricing, funding accounts, dependent documentation and, for Purdue University employees, premiums for spouses.
Employees who already selected benefits should verify that the process finished. Purdue’s notice tells them to “confirm their enrollment was fully submitted in Benefitfocus.” Elections made during open enrollment remain in effect throughout 2027 unless an employee experiences a qualifying life event.
Which annual actions must employees complete?
Purdue says employees must complete annual requirements to ensure coverage and premiums are set up as intended. The rules differ by employer, so each workforce should use the process designated for its own workplace.
- Purdue University tobacco status: Employees electing medical coverage must complete the Tobacco Survey annually. Their responses may affect medical premiums.
- Purdue Global tobacco status: Employees enrolling in life or critical illness coverage must recertify their tobacco status in Benefitfocus each year, even if nothing has changed. Tobacco status may affect premiums for those coverages, but does not affect medical premiums.
- Funding accounts: Employees must make new HSA, HRA, FSA and DCFSA elections every year because current selections do not carry over into 2027. These four account types therefore require action despite the general carryover treatment for most benefits.
Which documents carry a Dec. 1 deadline?
Two supporting-document deadlines fall after the Nov. 10 election cutoff.
- New dependents: Employees must upload required documentation for newly added dependents in Benefitfocus by Dec. 1, 2026.
- Working spouse certification: Purdue University employees who cover a spouse must complete the Working Spouse Certification annually to avoid the applicable additional premium. If an employee needs to submit a working spouse waiver form, the deadline is also Dec. 1, 2026, ensuring January 2027 premiums are correct. Purdue provides additional information in the Working Spouse Guide.
- Purdue Global exemption: Working spouse certification does not apply to Purdue Global employees.
Where can employees compare plans and get enrollment help?
Purdue directs employees to materials designated for their respective employer rather than providing one shared enrollment package.
For Purdue University employees, the 2027 Benefits Enrollment website provides:
- The What’s New Overview, highlighting changes for 2027.
- The 2027 Benefits Guide and Open Enrollment Decision Guide, containing plan details and decision-making tools.
- Open Enrollment Resources, including live presentations, enrollment labs, one-on-one assistance and recorded presentations.
- Enrollment videos, forms and additional guidance on choosing a medical plan, understanding HSAs and how to enroll.
- The Open Enrollment Newsroom, with previous enrollment communications and reminders.
For Purdue Global employees, the Purdue Global Benefits/Wellness website provides:
- The 2027 Purdue Global Benefits Guide and Open Enrollment Decision Guide.
- Enrollment resources, including a recorded presentation and a How to Enroll video.
- The Purdue Global Open Enrollment Newsroom, containing enrollment communications and reminders.
How can employees submit elections and contact HR?
Employees can access Benefitfocus through the OnePurdue Portal by clicking the Open Enrollment banner at the top of the page. Human Resources can be reached at 765-494-2222 or [email protected].
The HR Service Center receives higher-than-normal inquiry volume during open enrollment. Staff are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Emails receive case numbers, and the service center addresses them in the order received.
Purdue asks employees to allow time for a response and follow existing cases instead of submitting duplicate inquiries, which can delay assistance. The next two fixed checkpoints are the Nov. 10 election cutoff and the Dec. 1 documentation deadline for new dependents and any required working spouse waiver form.
